Who hasn't given a few minutes of the afternoon over to a daydream of being a professional gamer? Personally, I spent age 13-17 wondering if there was a way to capitalize on my basement dwelling, joystick centered lifestyle. Sadly, I didn't have the skills to climb the ranks of the ubercompetitive gaming underworld. For the ambitious youngsters of today, wasting their precious youth on the likes of Halo 3, Madden '09 or Call of Duty 4 need not be a profitless endeavor. WorldGaming.com offers for pay competitions in which winners take home cash and prizes.

This is how it works: gamers register, pay a small fee of about $5, enter a game or tournament, and then duke it out for top scores. WorldGaming sets up bracketed tournaments and offers deathmatches where the winners claim cash prizes, typically $100 for first place and $50 for second place. The hourly "wage" for a decent player probably doesn't work out to be that great on some of the longer sports games, but next to doing time in a call center, it sounds like a good way for talented Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers to supplement their income.

To ring in their official release, WorldGaming is offering some promotional deals to entice new members. For the next 30 days, every new member will recieve a 25% bonus on the amount of money they put it in. There is a grand prize for the 10,000th registrant too: a console of choice and $350 worth of gift certificates and in game credit.

If you're the clear champion amongst your peers and manage to pwn, you might be good enough to make some cash of your habit. This week, WorldGaming is hosting tourneys for Madden '09, Fifa '09, Halo 3, NHL '09, NCAA Football '09 and Fight Night 3.

Competitions are in development for Gears of War 2, GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, Warhawk, Lost Planet and other titles.
